Virtual World

How did you feel after watching the video? Are you enlightened? Did you realize how far technology had separated us from the real world? Do you believe this is true? Watch again. Let me know in the comments section how you have reacted.

When was the first time you used a smart phone and/or a computer/laptop? That must be so exciting! You must have stayed awake all night to get yourself familiarized with its features! You'd have wanted to make sure that you will have the recent apps your friends are using or playing on phone. How many photos of yourself did you take to test your camera? How many new friends did you add in your contacts? When was that? That was the time you started building your world of self-image and self-promotion.

How did you feel? It felt awesome! You really can't get enough of it! Every time you discover or get something new from it, you would want more. The process is endless. It is just so enticing. Till you don't realize how time passed, without eating, without talking with real people, without going out...

Let us stop and think about how technology had changed our lives. Changed or affected? Let me share mine.

Cellphones:  one dial or about a hundred of hits on your keypad, you sent your message across. No mess, no sweat. Sometimes it will mean getting what you want like a delivered food. Or maybe a confirmation for your next meeting. Or to say to your friends about the sudden change of your mind that will surely piss them off. Or to curse a person you so hated, then you'd feel better. Sometimes, I even use cellphone to tell a friend who lives just a few steps away from us, about a tv show that I am watching at the moment.

Computers: Just the same with cellphones. I get almost everything instantly. What I want to know, I search google. For others, even shopping means no sweat with online shops. I don't even have to rush to ride the public utility vehicles to get to work. I am working at home, online. But, I do miss the rush and beating people to ride the jeepney or bus. Sometimes, it's fun.

There's just so much to tell about how cellphones and computers have changed me, and maybe even you. But one of the most alarming thing that I noticed to myself is of my patience. I became less and less patient. I want everything done, I want to know things, I want my questions answered, INSTANTLY! Slow internet speed will surely drive me crazily mad. Slow and/or no responses at all make me hate a person. This is not healthy, is it?

At home, it is even more ridiculous. I laugh at how we look like with one of my daughter on the computer, another one on her cellphone, and I am on my laptop. I sometimes laugh but deep inside me, I am worrying. What are we doing?

Watch again the video. I think it's time that we "step away from the phones (and computers) and go out into the world"  before we lose everything that was there for us.
