Repurpose Ideas

When you're home, everywhere you look, you find things that bug you but you cannot throw out of the window! Broken furniture, old things, empty boxes and/or jars,.. jars! I got a lot of them!

Junk Jars

After emptying these jars, well, there are more of them in the kitchen, I tried to sell them. Even junk shops didn't accept them! So, what the heck am I going to do with these? I blamed the manufacturers because they should have created these jars on a more nice looking that can be used for drinking glasses. But they didn't.  Sigh!

Until recently, I discovered the word "repurpose." It is to convert or change or to reuse things on a different purpose. There are actually, a lot that can be done with our junks. A little creativity, some tools, and our junks, then we get beautiful accents for our house. We can even sell them! What a great idea to earn from junks with very low investment while helping save the environment. Well, you don't have to throw everything to garbage cans.

How to Create Header in Photoshop : A Newbie’s Tutorial

Every time I visit websites, it is either the header or the background that always gets my attention. I am always startled by their beauty, their “effects”, and how they were created. I also believe that the header can give the greatest impact on the viewer. Since then, I have dreamt of making such header or background that can put the viewer in awe.

Luckily, a prospective client before trusted me to practice on the website he was building. His priority was that I be able to make compelling articles aside from maintaining the site. But since he allowed me to build the site from the very foundation which is its layout, I really got so obsessed on making a good header. I have attempted thrice in creating a header in photoshop. And the third and last one was inspired by a website that I was able to search in the internet.

Following is my step by step procedure in creating the header. Enjoy the crazy things that a newbie can do in order to come up to a design she wanted to imitate.

The website of the client was intended for business. So I decided to create a business header inspired by this post - http://www.designinterviews.com/news/101-Header-Tutorials-58780.html
This is it- my business header:

CUP SONG - ANOTHER VIRAL VIDEO

Cup song – never heard of it before until I saw this video of my cousin on facebook. I was literally astonished on how she was able to make instrumentals out of a plain cup. More so, it sounds good! I interviewed her about it and learned that it is an Anna Kendrick's song. Just as usual, I browsed over youtube videos and found a lot more of the same kind including this one that was performed by a 7 year old girl - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpCVXYxhx2k. Fantastic!

Percussions are music instruments that can be struck by a beater, a hand or other similar instrument to make a sound. It is one of the oldest instruments next to human voice and has evolved into a lot of versions these days. The oldest could be that of tapping two sticks together. The newest version of sets of drums can cost as low as $350 or as high as $ 4,277. And those lovely timpani have a whopping cost of more or less than $6,500!

FEAR OF AGING?

Fear of aging?

Hush! I'm not that old to worry about aging this soon.

I have just been working with a client who is into real estate. As I go through postings at craigslist, I was surprised to come across phrases such as "mobile home" and "senior community" several times. From the word itself, mobile home, it could be a house that can be moved from one place to another. Hmmm... let me check the web. "Mobile homes (in the United States; are also called trailers or house trailers) or static caravans (in other countries; also called caravans) are prefabricated homes built in factories, rather than on site, and then taken to the place where they will be occupied." (Wikipedia.org). I just thought it's it's "only in the Philippines".

A mobile home that seems firmly attached to the ground.

ARE SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES ANTI-SOCIAL LIFE?

“It has become exceedingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” – Albert Einstein

Do you know anyone who hasn’t been toggled in social networking sites? Whether it be through cell phones, computers, or laptops, many people these days find themselves engaged in at least one or two of those famous networking sites. According to studies conducted by Pew Research Center, 69% of online adults use social networking sites of which 75% are women, 92% come from young adults aged 18-29 followed by those at the age of 30-49 by 73%. Most users come from those who had gone to college and of those households whose income is $75,000+ and less than $30,000/year, 75% and 74% respectively, are into social networking.
It is human’s nature to look for ways to connect with others with the same interests and experiences.  Therefore, social networking site is just another tool that humans are engaged with and find interesting to share to others.

VIRTUAL TRAINING

11th of January, 2013 marks our parting time with the Sacred Project Training. It is a group organized by a person of foreign blood but with the noble deed of reaching out to Filipinos. Ms. Christiane Holbrook, German-American, who, despite her nationality still believes in the credibility of Filipino workers. She created a page on facebook  http://www.facebook.com/groups/sacredvatraining/  where Filipino virtual assistants are welcome to join in. Afterwards, she decided to give free training  to 6 of us. What a kind heart she has for her to dedicate some of her time, providing us with training “modules” , and a once a week  one- hour online meeting. All, for seven weeks!

Though hesitant at first for I’m aware of how little I know of virtual assistance, I tried the training. Yes, it was difficult because we had to do research and study a lot. But it was really worth a try! From that training I learned :
  • Audio Creation
  • Video Creation
  • Video /Article Syndication
  • Social Media Mastery

And a lot more like :
  • MS Powerpoint
  • Conversion from powerpoint to video
  • Trimming of Audio
  • Screencapture
  • Conversion of Files to PDF files

And of course, English. Despite my timidity, I was sometimes obliged to speak up. J That was good for me, actually. To practice my English.
Most importantly, the friendship that grew in us. How nice it is to be friends with people who have the same purpose of working online and of “changing the world”.
